BEE NOTES

HERE IS WHERE I SHARE USEFUL INFORMATION THAT I HAVE LEARNED OVER THE YEARS.

  • WHEN MATCHING SEAMS FOR PIECING, DON'T PIN IN THE SEAM, PIN NEXT TO THE SEAM ON AN ANGLE AND DON'T TAKE THE PIN OUT UNTIL THE NEEDLE REACHES IT.
  • ‚ÄčMAKING HALF SQUARE TRIANGLE UNITS?   CUT YOUR SQUARES 1/2" LARGER THAN THE FINISHED PIECE NEEDS TO BE; I.E. IF YOU NEED 2-1/2", CUT YOUR SQUARES 3" NOT 2-7/8".  MUCH EASIER TO SQUARE UP.
  • USE FLAT FLOWER PINS - YOUR FABRIC WILL ALWAYS LAY FLAT.    USE THEM ESPECIALLY WHEN PAPER PIECING.
  • PRESS YOUR SEAMS OPEN WHEN YOU CAN; YOUR LONGARM QUILTER WILL BE DELIGHTED.  USE THE PRESSING STICK MADE BY BABB; ALL YOU DO IS LAY YOUR SEAM ON THE ROUNDED PART OF THE STICK, OPEN SEAM WITH YOUR FINGER AND PRESS WITH YOUR IRON.    YOU WILL NO LONGER HAVE ANY DISTORTION IN YOUR STRIPS.
  • BEE HAPPY WITH WHATEVER YOU ARE DOING.

  • WASHING A QUILT BUT UNSURE IF FABRIC WAS PREWASHED?   USE A SHOUT COLOR CATCHER IN THE WASHING MACHINE - IT'S MAGIC AND WILL COLLECT ANY DYE THAT ESCAPES FROM YOUR FABRICS.   THEY ARE AVAILABLE IN THE DETERGENT AISLE AT THE GROCERY STORE AND COME IN A BOX SIMILAR TO DRYER SHEETS.
  • CLEAN THE BOBBIN AREA OF YOUR SEWING MACHINE OFTEN - LINT FROM FABRIC, THREAD, BATTING WILL GATHER THERE AND MAKE A BLANKET AND WILL EFFECT THE STITCH QUALITY.
  • ALWAYS USE A GOOD QUALITY COTTON THREAD; FORGET THE CHEAP THREAD
  • BEE GIVING - SHARE INFORMATION WITH ONE ANOTHER

  • IRONING BOARD COVER TAKING A BEATING FROM THE IRON?     USE A SCRAP OF BATTING FOR RESTING THE IRON
  • REPLACE YOUR IRONING BOARD COVER IF IT IS REALLY WORN; IT'S AMAZING HOW MUCH BETTER YOU CAN IRON WITH A NEW COVER
  •
